About Course

This course is an overview of the popular problem solving methodology known as Lean.  Lean is a concept or way of thinking that focuses on eliminating waste and streamlining operating processes to save time, money and resources to benefit the customer and provide maximum value to its customers.  This methodology is utilized globally in corporate and non profit organizations in both the manufacturing and service industries and is a career accelerator. Lean, and its complimentary statistically driven counterpart Six Sigma, have saved organization over $400B.

The Origin and Foundation of Lean
In this lesson we review the Origin and Foundations of Lean.

Lean in Action: Meals Per Hour
This series of lessons is based on the relief efforts of a Non Profit organization in New York to assist the local residents impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

How to Start Identify Improvement Opportunities
The next 3 videos will describe how to identify pain points and waste in a process. In addition, you will learn how to visually display the process performance and highlight improvement opportunity areas.

Examples of Waste in a Classic TV Show
The next series of videos focuses on the popular TV Series from the 1960's and 1970's called 'I Love Lucy' starring Lucielle Ball. Lucy and her associate, Ethel, are on a chocolate production line attempting to sort and pack chocolates, with disastrous consequences. This is a lesson in waste identification, continuous flow and overall operational efficiency.

The first lesson covers the basics of Process Mapping. Process Mapping is a visual representation of your operational process and a key to identifying areas of waste and improvement. The second lesson is on the popular a 5 Why's technique utilized to get to the root cause of a problem.
